Mongolia to assemble new Antonov An-2

Antonov An-2’s heavily updated modification, the heir of the most widely recognized aicraft in Mongolian civil aviation history – Antonov AN-2 had landed in Chinggis Khaan International Airport for demonstration and testing purposes.

The national air carrier is increasing its fleet size due to expected passenger traffic increase. Thus, MIAT started the lease of Oman Air’s B737-700 aircraft which landed in ULN airport on May 10th. The aircraft’s has a seat configuration of 12 business class seats and 102 economy class seats.

MIAT to lease two new Boeing 737 MAX 8

MIAT Mongolian Airlines announced its decision to lease two Boeing 737 MAX-8 from Avalon. According to the airline’s press release, the two brand-new aircraft are expected to be received in 1st and 2nd quarters of 2019 respectively.

Mongolia and Cuba to cooperate in tourism

Mrs. Oyunkhorol Dulamsuren, Minister of Environment and Tourismof Mongolia, welcomed the Ambassador of Cuba to Mongolia, Raúl Delgado Concepción, on March 4th. The Cuban Ambassador updated the Minister on tourism development on the island and the challenges facing today the sector considered the engine of the current Cuban economy from the sustained increase in the arrival of tourists to the main tourist destinations in Cuba.

The national air carrier of Mongolia, MIAT Mongolian Airlines announced its plan to launch direct Busan flight from Ulaanbaatar.

Hunnu Air has signed a letter of intent for lease of the second ATR 72-500 from Nordic Aviation Capital. The aircraft will enter into service starting from June 2017.

2016 Mongolia’s aviation statistics

The Ministry of Road and Transportation released a preliminary report for 2016 aviation statistics. The report indicates that the national air carrier – MIAT Mongolian Airlines performed the half of the international flights in Mongolia followed by Air China (21%) and Korean Air (12%).

Lonely Planet puts Mongolia among Best in Travel 2017 Top Countries in its blog.  According to Lonely Planet, "in 2017 Mongolia will raise the curtain on a brand-new capital-city airport, a state-of- the-art facility that symbolises the country’s rapid modernisation."

The Civil Aviation Authority of Mongolia (MCAA) has begun the registration of all remotely controlled aircrafts or drones that are in the possession of individuals and entities.

According to MCAA, this measure which is aimed at ensuring the aviation safety and security, will be implemented in two stages.

Holiday Inn Ulaanbaatar Opens

Holiday Inn Ulaanbaatar has been officially opened on November 18th, 2016. Located in close proximity to Central Square, Holiday Inn Ulaanbaatar is considered as a 4 star hotel project with 170 guestrooms and 20 floors with 3 conference and hall rooms.

According to MIAT Mongolian Airlines October press release, the airline banned Samsung Galaxy Note 7 for all its flights in order to ensure the safety of passengers and to prevent from possible risks.

Mongolia's Tourism Budget for 2017 Approved

The State Great Khural (parliament) of Mongolia have approved a bill for 2017 budget. The Ministry of Nature, Environment and Tourism of Mongolia will receive MNT 70.6 billion budget for 2017 followed by the Ministry of External Relations (MNT 59.6 bln), the Ministry of Construction and Urban Development (MNT 56.9 bln) and the Ministry of Mining and Heavy Industry (with MNT 20.2 bln is the least budgeted ministry).
