Air Astana has been looking at entering the Mongolian market for several years and initially announced services to Ulaanbaatar in 2011 before pulling the route prior to the planned launch. It again put the Ulaanbaatar in its network plan for 2014 but ended up postponing the route again.
The airline will perform three round trips a week; on Monday, Thursday and Sunday with its Airbus A320.
Besides Ulaanbaatar, Air Astana plans also to launch services to Tehran, Iran while adding capacity on existing routes to China, Georgia, Ukraine and the UK. London expansion comes on the heels of British Airways dropping service to Kazakhstan.
News update (22 Apr 2016): Air Astana informed that the planned flights are on hold due to withdrawal of permission by MCAA to fly ULN-TSE route.
