The Civil Aviation Authority of Mongolia (MCAA) has begun the registration of all remotely controlled aircrafts or drones that are in the possession of individuals and entities.

According to MCAA, this measure which is aimed at ensuring the aviation safety and security, will be implemented in two stages.

The first stage includes voluntary registration of drones by their owners until December 30th, 2016. Starting from January 1st, 2017, the owners of unregistered drones who performed flights in restricted areas will be legally punished.

MCAA stated that this will mitigate the risks associated with drones flying in close proximity to airports and aircrafts as well as in densely populated areas.
