Mongolia receives its first brand new Boeing

miat-mongolian-airlines-new-boeing-767The delivery ceremony of a brand new Boeing 767 ER named after Genghis Khan ("Chinggis Khaan" - in Mongolian) was held today morning (May 15, 2013) upon its landing at the Chinggis Khaan International Airport in Ulaanbaatar. It is the one of three brand new Boeings that the national air carrier – MIAT Mongolian Airlines will operate for the first time.

The Prime Minister of Mongolia, Altankhuyag Norov, who has attended the aircraft receiving ceremony mentioned that “Mongolia has extensively used leased aircraft but today is the day which makes all Mongolian citizens proud of their country and its aviation industry with delivery of this brand new wide-body aircraft”. “Now we have our own wings to reach every corner of the world” he added.

In July 2011, during his official visit to the United States the President of Mongolia, Elbegdorj Tsakhia, had signed an agreement to purchase three aircrafts from Boeing corporation.

“Today’s occasion is the new page in the aviation history of Mongolia. Our company has always been fulfilling role as a national air carrier since its establishment more than half a century ago. MIAT Mongolian Airlines received National Air Flag Carrier status according to the "Government policy on the development of civil aviation industry until 2020”. The receipt of today’s aircraft allows us to fully meet our customers’ needs as well as to expand destinations. Mongolia is aiming to become one of the aviation leaders in the region and this Boeing 767 ER will help us to achieve that” said CEO and President of MIAT Mongolian Airlines, Mr. Jargalsaikhan G.

The newly delivered Boeing whose range reaches up to 11 070 km (hence the ER or Extended Range abbrevation) has 25 ultra-comfortable, fully reclining business class seats and 195 comfortable economy class seats each equipped with own audio and video entertainment systems and displays. The new Boeing cost USD 114 mln and first flight is scheduled between Ulaanbaatar and Seoul.

MIAT Mongolian Airlines is set to receive two additional brand new Boeing 737-800s from factory in next two years.
